About HKISC
Established in 2021, the Hong Kong Inter-School Choir (HKISC) is an extension programme of the Hong Kong Inter-School Choral Festival (HKICF). It aims to train the next generation of choral leaders, all while enabling young people to contribute to the community. HKISC is divided into primary, junior secondary, and senior secondary divisions. Since its establishment, HKISC has served students from over 130 schools. There are currently more than 200 student representatives admitted to HKISC. To promote music education equity while elevating excellence in choral singing, all admitted members receive year-long intensive choral training on a full scholarship.
Under the leadership of Artistic Director Kelvin Lau and several other conductors, HKISC frequently participates in various performances as a guest performer. Notable performances included the “Hong Kong WinterFest – Christmas Town” at West K, “HKPM Showtime Carnival” at the Hong Kong Palace Museum, and the 5th Hong Kong International Young Musicians Competition Opening Concert. HKISC has also been invited to participate in the recording projects, including singing in the choral parts of the movie “Measure in Love (他年 • 她日)”, George Lam and Sally Yeh’s single “WE ARE ONE (白頭不老)”, and On Chan’s single, “Back to Reality (當我們返回現世)”. Every May, members of HKISC showcase their learning outcomes in their annual concert, featuring elements of musical theatre, drama, and dance.
HKISC also actively performs at charity events to motivate students to serve the community. Members of HKISC have volunteered in past HKICF events, including competitions, concerts, and numerous other programmes. Additionally, HKISC also participates in the annual HKICF “Virtual Choir Project,” collaborating with various organisations such as MindHK, the Hong Kong Children’s Hospital, the Children’s Cancer Foundation, the Hong Kong Society for the Aged, the Child Development Matching Fund, and the New Sight.
In cultivating the leadership skills of HKISC members, HKISC collaborates with the Asia Society Hong Kong Centre to engage members in activities such as cultural exhibitions, international policy seminars, and trade show visits through its “Learners to Leaders” scheme. This initiative aims to broaden youngsters’ horizons and develop their leadership capabilities. HKISC members also host choirs from around the world, including the Defrost Youth Choir (Norway), Shenzhen Senior High School Choir Lily Girls Choir (China), and Voices of Singapore Children’s Choir (Singapore), offering choral exchanges and training with overseas choirs.
HKISC has played several important roles in the HKICF, such as performing in the HKICF2025 Choral Carnival Day Opening Ceremony and serving as the demonstration choir in multiple workshops for music teachers/conductors. HKISC has also premiered several commissioned works for the HKICF, such as “今天一起唱的歌” (Leon Ko), “未得住未曾住” (Dr. Steve Ho), “一起再唱” (Jason Liu), “同一抹朗月” (Ernest Hui), “團火” (Kelvin Lau), “菠蘿批 Pineapple Pizza” (Loo Sze Wang), “母校頌” (Warren Lee), and “如夢令” (Lau Yik Long).
