Dear Teachers, Parents, Conductors and Choristers,

As we gather once again for the Hong Kong Inter-School Choral Festival 2027, I am filled with a deep sense of gratitude because this year marks our 10th anniversary. In this celebratory year, we look back with immense joy and feel incredibly blessed to have so much support from all of you: choirs, teachers, students, parents, and donors. Your encouragement, guidance, and trust have allowed HKICF to blossom from a remote vision into a festival that matters to so many in our community.

I must also thank my team for their incredible dedication over the years. We owe the success of HKICF to their hard work and sacrifice. Behind every rehearsal schedule, every planning decision, and every event that runs smoothly, there is so much effort behind the scenes. You may not see it, but you can certainly feel it in the quality and spirit of the festival.

As we celebrate our first 10 years, we are particularly focused on designing programmes that will deepen the impact of our work and create even more meaningful opportunities for the next decade.

One of these special events is a “Professional Development Day” for music educators and conductors that is a consolidation of our teachers’ training efforts over the past 10 years. This full-day programme is an unprecedented “train the trainers” opportunity to learn from international and local choral and vocal pedagogues and composers through workshops, repertoire reading sessions, and roundtable discussions. Another project to commemorate our 10th anniversary is the commissioning of 10 composers to compose 10 new songs under the theme “Hong Kong Collective Memory”. Last but not least, we will honour school choirs that have actively taken part in HKICF over the last 10 years and long-serving music teachers for their contribution and steady care for young singers with our HKICF2027 Choral Educators Award and Choirs Recognition Award.

As we celebrate what has been achieved, we also look forward to how HKICF will continue to inspire the way educators teach and the way young people learn, and to help our next generation grow into empathetic, confident, and collaborative citizens.

I look forward to welcoming you to an inspiring and memorable HKICF2027. Thank you for your dedication, passion, and belief in the transformative power of choral music.

With warmest regards,

Kelvin Lau
