Join the Artistic Director and Founder of The London Youth Choirs for a workshop to inspire teachers, choir leaders and conductors with practical and creative approaches to engaging teenagers in singing, exploring how warm-ups, short songs, rounds and layer songs can build confidence, musicality and a strong sense of belonging. The workshop will focus particularly on supporting teenagers, especially boys, through the voice change, helping leaders understand and embrace the changing voice while creating a positive environment in which every young singer feels encouraged to continue singing.

Through a highly practical and participatory session, the workshop will explore a range of accessible techniques and repertoire that can be used immediately in schools, choirs and youth music settings. Topics will include effective and engaging warm-ups, choosing songs that work across changing voices, using rounds and layer songs to develop listening and ensemble skills, and adapting activities to different ages, abilities and vocal ranges. Particular attention will be given to the changing male voice, exploring ways to work sensitively and musically with boys as their voices develop, without embarrassment or loss of confidence.

Through this workshop, music educators and choir leaders will gain a practical toolkit of ideas, repertoire and rehearsal strategies to inspire teenagers to keep singing. Participants will leave with renewed confidence in working with changing voices and with creative approaches that make singing accessible, enjoyable and rewarding for all young people.
