Daniel Knauft

Co-founder of the German Vocal Ensemble “amarcord”
2025

Daniel Knauft is co-founder and first bass of the internationally renowned German vocal ensemble “amarcord”. A laureate of several international competitions, amarcord has performed more than 2,000 concerts since 1992 at music festivals and in major concert halls in over 50 countries world-wide and has recorded some twenty CDs. In 1997, Daniel initiated together with his amarcord colleagues the Festival of Vocal Music “a cappella” in Leipzig and since then actively supports its continuing success.

Daniel is a sought-after adjudicator and workshop presenter having conducted dozens of masterclasses world-wide. Starting with the academic year 2023/2024, Daniel and his amarcord colleagues have been nominated lecturers for ensemble singing at the prestigious Leipzig Conservatory of Music founded by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy.

Daniel started his singing career as a member of the St. Thomas Boys Choir in Leipzig. Parallel to studying medicine at Leipzig University with the aim to become an ENT specialist and phoniatrician, a research dissertation on the adolescent singing voice has been complimenting his musical work with amarcord.

Daniel is a proud son of Leipzig and considers himself a cultural ambassador of the city of Johann Sebastian Bach that helped change the world and that carries a special spirit running through the centuries. When at home after concerts, Daniel enjoys playing the bass viol, spending time in the garden and, alongside his dear ones incl. cat Umberto, occasionally doing nothing (of importance).
