Featured Choirs

HKICF is dedicated to offering high-quality choral music experiences for local audiences through a variety of concerts held annually. This year, in addition to primary and secondary school choirs, we have also invited several renowned local choirs to participate, aiming to foster greater exchange and collaboration within the choral community.

Fluente Chorus

Fluente Chorus was founded in 2019 by a group of choral enthusiasts with a shared vision: to explore and perform choral music from the 20th century to the present day. Known for its thoughtful programming, the ensemble often presents concerts built around themes, featuring diverse musical styles and languages. Fluente Chorus won a silver medal at the Taipei International Choral Festival, and performed its first large-scale choral-orchestral work, Faure’s Requiem in 2023.

Committed to nurturing the local choral landscape, the ensemble actively collaborates with Hong Kong composers. It has performed Mandarin-language works adapted into Cantonese and regularly commissions new Cantonese choral pieces from local artists, introducing innovative sounds to Hong Kong’s rich choral tradition.

The Learners Chorus

The Learners Chorus was founded in 1979 by former members of the Hong Kong University Students’ Union Choir.  In addition to hosting choral concerts and large-scale concerts with The Learners Orchestra, Learners has also given guest performances both within and outside Hong Kong.  Recent appearances include Britten’s War Requiem with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra and its Chorus under the baton of the late Maestro Lorin Maazel; Mahler’s Symphony No. 8 “Symphony of a Thousand” at the Hong Kong-Vienna Music Festival; “Heroes: A Video Game Symphony” and “National Geographic: Symphony for Our World”, both with the Macao Orchestra; and “Los Angeles International Choir Festival” and “Verdi Requiem” with Dream Orchestra of Los Angeles.  Net ticket proceeds of its fundraising concerts were donated to charitable organisations for installing water cellars, rebuilding schools and sponsoring scholarships, among other causes.

The Hong Kong Children’s Choir

The Hong Kong Children’s Choir (HKCC) was founded in 1969 as the first children’s choir in Hong Kong. HKCC is a registered non-profit-making charitable organization and has made tremendous contributions for children’s arts training in Hong Kong. It is now the biggest choir in the world with over 5,000 members and has grown into a diversified arts organization for children.

HKCC is invited to perform overseas each year, spreading the message of love and peace in different parts of the world. The Choir has been well received and appreciated in many countries, gaining an international reputation as the “Little Goodwill Singing Ambassadors” and “one of the best children’s choirs in the world”. HKCC was named “China’s Top Ten Children Chorus” in 2003 and won the prestigious “Award of the Audience” at the “Vivace 2006 International Choir Festival” in Hungary. In 2008, the choir was awarded the “Gold Cup” from “Shanghai International Children’s Chorus Festival”. In 2014, HKCC was selected by the International Federation for Choral Music (IFCM) as one of the IFCM Ambassadors for 2013 to 2015. The Choir was invited to perform in the 2014 “10th World Symposium on Choral Music” in South Korea.

As the children’s choir that best represents Hong Kong, HKCC took part in many historical moments, including the Hong Kong Handover Ceremony in 1997, the opening ceremony of the Hong Kong International Airport in 1998, the Hong Kong Disneyland Grand Opening in 2005, various performances to commemorate the anniversaries of Hong Kong’s reunification with China.

In 2019, HKCC presented the “Asia Pacific Choral Summit” which was awarded the 14th HKADC Award for Arts Promotion and the “Hong Kong Choral Conducting Competition” to celebrate its 50th Anniversary. Additionally, the grand original Cantonese musical production, King of Singers, was selected as one of the Top 10 Music Headlines by RTHK. In 2023, the “HKCC Towards 55th Anniversary – HKCC Pays Tribute to Sam Hui“ concert was held, preserving and carrying forward the Cantopop culture for future generations. In 2024, the 55th Anniversary Choral Camp “Sing Out of the Box” was held to promote diverse choral music and expand the boundaries of Hong Kong’s choral scene.

NOĒMA

NOĒMA

NOĒMA is a leading chamber choir dedicated to advancing Hong Kong’s choral scene. Comprising some of the finest local choral musicians, the group has quickly become one of the city’s premier ensembles under the dynamic leadership of Artistic Director Sanders Lau, who founded the choir in 2022. NOĒMA has performed to critical acclaim, with invitations from eminent presenters, including MUSE of The University of Hong Kong (HKU), Tai Kwun, and the Hong Kong Arts Festival (HKAF). Their performance of the sold-out cross-disciplinary choral concert Garden of Repose at the HKAF was nominated and shortlisted for the 2024 Classical:NEXT Innovation Award.

In its 2024/25 season, NOĒMA presented five programmes ranging from Bach and Bruckner to Caroline Shaw and a new commission by Hong Kong composer Adrian Wong. Season highlights included collaborations with internationally renowned vocal ensembles Tenebrae and Vox Luminis with Lionel Meunier, bringing world-class choral artistry to Hong Kong audiences. NOĒMA also debuted at the East Kowloon Cultural Centre in So FAR, So… (Work-in-progress Presentation), collaborating with multidisciplinary theatre-maker Ivanhoe Lam.

NOĒMA’s ethos is centred on applying ideals of rhetoric—the art of persuasion—to its performances, always exploring and harnessing the expressive landscape in its repertoire. It is known for innovative and thought-provoking programming, creating profound dialogues among music, poetry, and spirituality and reaffirming the relevance of choral art in contemporary society.

The choir has collaborated with various artists, including Cong Quartet, composer Chris Cheung, and set designer Ruby Law. Upcoming collaborators include media artist Keith Lam and composer Daniel Lo. To further its commitment to nurturing Hong Kong’s choral community, NOĒMA has worked closely with the HKU Chamber Singers and is a supporting organisation of the Hong Kong Inter-School Choral Festival.
