Lim Ai Hooi

Artistic Director of Singapore International Choral Festival
2026

Lim Ai Hooi is a highly respected choral conductor and music educator in Singapore.

Graduating from the Royal College of Music, London in 1989 with majors in piano and voice, Ai Hooi has since served as Vice President of the Singapore Association of Choral Directors. She currently conducts top secondary schools and junior college choirs in Singapore and Malaysia, and shares her knowledge and experience as a consultant. Her school choirs have achieved remarkable success in many regional and international competitions over the past 20 years. In 2009, she founded the ONE Chamber Choir. In addition to local concerts, the choir has achieved excellent results in international choral festivals in the Philippines, Wales, Hungary, Germany, and South Africa in recent years.

Although frequently recognized with awards, Ai Hooi does not view them as the sole objective of performance or teaching. Music, being the most direct language for conveying emotions and ideas, is at the core of her teaching philosophy. She believes in instilling her passion and beliefs in her singers, hoping they can not only produce beautiful notes but also touch the hearts of the audience with sincere and authentic voices.

In 2010, Ai Hooi established Sourcewerkz Private Limited, an organization focused on hosting choral festivals and workshops to share the joy and philosophy of choral music. In addition to organizing the Winter Choral Festival in Hong Kong and the Festival Coros de Verão in Portugal, Sourcewerkz has also been the host of the Singapore International Choral Festival since 2014, attracting over 500 choirs from around the world to Singapore. Besides serving as Artistic Director for the Singapore International Choral Festival and Associate Artistic Director for Festival Coros de Verão, Ai Hooi is frequently invited as an adjudicator for various competitions, including the World Choir Games, Asian Choral Grand Prix, Taipei International Choral Competition, Canta al Mar Festival Coral Internacional, and Bali International Choir Festival. She has also been invited to deliver talks in places like Poland, Germany, mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, sharing her insights on education and conducting. In 2025, she founded the non-profit organization ONE Choral Company, continuing her efforts to promote the art of choral singing.
