Akiko is an award-winning singer, educator, and a Third Culture Kid, known for her unique pedagogy that combines whole-body awareness, voice science, and storytelling to prioritize each singer’s individuality. An active member of Performing Arts Medicine Singapore, she collaborates with health professionals to support performers’ needs.
As a versatile vocal coach, Akiko has worked extensively across classical, musical theatre, and commercial music genres, collaborating with entities such as Sony Japan, Avex, and Gap Japan. Her recent coaching highlights include Singapore’s National Day Parade (2024) and the Child Aid charity event (2023), and she conducted the 2025 SEASAC Music Festival Choir. She frequently delivers energetic workshops as a guest clinician across Asia. Akiko oversees the singing for the BA (Hon) Musical Theatre programme at Lasalle College of the Arts, coaching productions and leading the musical theatre voice ensemble.
As a performer, she notably played Mrs. Potts in Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast in Concert” with OMM. Her performances in the monodrama “Diary of Anne Frank” (2015) and Chen Zhangyi’s “A Singapore Trilogy” (2018) earned Straits Times’ Best Opera of the Year accolades. Akiko serves as Artistic Director of The Voice Company and is Co-Founder of L’arietta Productions, a contemporary chamber opera company. She holds a B.M. Ed from the Hartt School and pursued professional development at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.
