This workshop with Dr. Wong tackles the evolving landscape of choral programming in the 21st century. The session delves into some of the key challenges faced by choirs today, and explores practical strategies and considerations for addressing them. Dr. Wong will discuss the concept of intentional choral programming, along with strategies for engaging with composers and arrangers, and the importance of ethical consumption of music.
Participants will have the opportunity to explore not only some of Dr. Wong’s own choral compositions, but also accessible and flexible pieces by living composers that can support the revitalisation of a choral programme. The workshop will conclude by providing participants with a valuable resource list for expanded programming, including publishers, recommended recordings, repertoire suggestions, and noteworthy composers. Additionally, participants will receive excerpts of the music discussed during the session.
