As conductors and music teachers, have you ever thought about writing songs for your choir? What about writing songs with them? From warm-ups to canons, from collaborative original compositions to arrangements, the possibilities are endless for creating music for and with your own students. In this workshop, renowned Australian composer and educator Sandra Milliken will guide us through her creative music composition process.
This workshop will teach you compositional techniques that can be used in a collaborative setting to create music for technical warm-ups and performances. As a composer who also conducts choir herself, Sandra will share her secrets for keeping the creative process an engaging one, and for utilising the talents of student choristers at all age levels.
The second part of the workshop will focus on choral arranging to cater to the needs of individual choirs. From easy harmonising to more complex ideas and performance techniques, there will be food for thoughts and practice to inspire both choristers and conductors. Come join us in exploring the joy of music composition.
