Dr. Chia-Fen Weng is recognized as one of Taiwan’s most active and outstanding choral conductors, known for her profound interpretations of an extensive repertoire and her commitment to premiering new Taiwanese commissioned works. She is a dedicated educator, significantly contributing to choral development in her country, and is frequently invited as a jury member or lecturer at international choral festivals and competitions.
A native of Taipei, Dr. Weng received her D.M.A. in Choral Conducting from the University of Texas at Austin in 1995. The following year, she began teaching at National Sun Yat-sen University, and since 2000, has also been a conducting faculty member at National Taiwan Normal University, advocating for a creative approach to teaching. From 2002 to 2024, she served as the Artistic Director of the Kaohsiung Chamber Choir, an ensemble she co-founded and cultivated into one of Taiwan’s leading choruses.
Her influence extends to organizing numerous choral activities and concerts, enriching the musical life of southern Taiwan. From April 2017 to April 2025, Dr. Weng served as the President of the Taiwan Choral Association and is currently an executive board member of the association. She is also a lifetime member of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) and the International Federation for Choral Music (IFCM).
