Virtual Choir Project

HKICF is committed to promoting choral music as a means of social engagement and empowerment. Starting in 2023, HKICF has collaborated with different social welfare organisations to organise virtual choir activities, hoping to use this opportunity to spread the message of love and care through singing and to raise awareness of the underprivileged in society.

In 2023, we partnered with the Children’s Cancer Foundation, with more than 2,200 students from 60 secondary and primary schools singing together to show their support and encouragement for children with cancer.

This year, we will join hands with the charity “New Sight” to break through geographical boundaries and bring students from Congo, Africa and Hong Kong together through choral music to support the charitable work by a Hong Konger serving in Africa to restore and protect sight through building an eye hospital.

New Sight serves in the Republic of Congo to restore and protect eyesight. The priceless gift of sight changes thousands of lives and transforms communities. In Congo, 480,000 people suffer from blindness or visual impairment. Did you know, 90% of vision loss can be prevented or treated? Many people are suffering needlessly from vision loss because they do not have access to eyecare. With your help, we can change this.

New Sight is also passionate about children’s education and is partnering with 30-plus local schools to promote literacy, numeracy and health education in a fun and interesting way. Our children’s magazine has a national readership of over 20,000.

The theme song “Love’s Boundless Flight” is composed by the renowned jazz pianist, Ms. Joyce Cheung. The lively piece starts with an Afro-rhythmic melody, symbolising the connection with Africa, delivering love and care despite geographical boundaries. Through this project, we aim to convey love and care, hoping to inspire students to be concerned for people in need in the world.

We invite all school choirs in Hong Kong to participate in this meaningful project for free. Participating choirs will receive sheet music, instrumental and voice demonstration recordings provided by the choir festival, as well as professional filming and recording guidance to record the new song. The virtual choir connects different groups in society with music, and enriches the learning experience of the students.
