Dorothy Hui
Trained as a classical pianist, Dorothy Hui studied with Martha Fischer as an undergraduate at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. During her time there, she was also trained in choral as well as orchestral conducting in various musical ensembles. Her conducting teachers include Bruce Gladstone, James Smith and Beverly Taylor.
In her previous school, she has led instrumental and choral groups in achieving excellent results in the Hong Kong Schools Music Festivals and the Youth Interflows. Under her direction, the school’s Junior Choir was crowned the Best Choir of the Year in 2016. Two years later, the school’s choir also captured the World Championship title of the Youth Choirs of Equal Voices at the 10th World Choir Games held in South Africa in 2018, the most competitive choral competition in the world. Equally at home in choral and orchestral settings, her conducting has led her to performance engagements in various cities in the United States, China, Japan, and throughout Hong Kong, and was invited to conduct at a masterclass with American conductor Marin Alsop. She has been invited as a guest conductor for the Macao Youth Symphony Orchestra.
As an educator, she has worked with student musicians from all over China and Hong Kong. Her former students have continued pursuing undergraduate studies in music in Hong Kong and abroad.
