The Hong Kong Virtuoso Chorus Limited

Hong Kong Arts Development Council fully supports freedom of artistic expression. The views and opinions expressed in this project do not represent the stand of the Council.

The Hong Kong Virtuoso Chorus Limited (HKVC) was founded in January 2011 as a charitable organisation with a primary focus on advancing choral education. Since its inception, the HKVC has been actively involved in a variety of cultural exchange initiatives, dedicated to promoting the appreciation of choral music among young people and giving back to the community through musical endeavours. Its contribution is recognised by The Hong Kong Art Development Conuncil (ADC) and is currently a grantee of the ADC’s Year Grant.

Comprised of a passionate group of Hong Kong youth, the HKVC is committed to fostering a love for choral music and encouraging young people to engage with this art form. Demonstrating a commitment to social responsibility, the choir has organised charity concerts to raise funds for those in need. The HKVC has evolved into a charity organisation and subsequently launched the Hong Kong Inter-School Choral Festival, a platform committed to providing high-quality choral education to schools in Hong Kong in a non-profit capacity.

Key Initiatives:

1.     Cultivating a Vibrant Inter-School Chorus Culture

The HKVC established the Hong Kong Inter-School Choral Festival as a music-based platform for collaboration. Participating teams are regarded as learning partners rather than competitors, embarking on an enriching experience of an international-level choral festival. Through this initiative, students gain exposure to diverse perspectives on choral music and enhance their artistic appreciation skills.

2.     Enhancing Campus Music Education

Through initiatives such as the School Choir Incubator Programme and the “Teachers’ Choir”, the HKVC creates an environment conducive to the sustainable growth of choral culture within schools. These programs allow teachers to rediscover the joy of choral participation and infuse fresh energy and ideas into their educational practices, elevating the overall quality of choral education in Hong Kong.

3.     Nurturing Choral Leaders

Our year-round initiative, the Hong Kong Inter-School Choir, actively supports emerging choral leaders by providing opportunities for school representatives to engage in choir performances and learn the importance of community service. Through these experiences, students develop self-confidence, leadership skills, and a strong sense of teamwork.

4.     Advocating Values Through Music

In response to the pandemic, the HKVC has collaborated with various social welfare organisations on online choir initiatives to promote positive values within the community. Partnerships include frontline medical staff, the Children’s Cancer Foundation, New Sight, and others.

5.     Increasing Accessibility to Music

The HKVC endeavours to broaden access to choral music by distributing free concert tickets to disadvantaged groups, commissioning new Chinese choral compositions, and participating in charity events to showcase the transformative power of music to diverse audiences.
