An accomplished mezzo-soprano, choral conductor, and educator, Carol Lee has devoted over two decades to youth music education and choral performance across Hong Kong and the United Kingdom. Her combined experience as an opera performer, conductor, and vocal coach enables her to approach children’s choral adjudication with a strong emphasis on vocal technique, ensemble balance, musical interpretation, and healthy vocal development. Carol graduated from the Vocal Department of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. As a mezzo-soprano, she has appeared in numerous opera productions, performing roles including Dorabella in Così fan tutte, Amastre in Serse, Brambilla in La Périchole, and Edith in The Pirates of Penzance. Her professional performance experience has provided her with a strong foundation in vocal technique, musicianship, language, and stagecraft, which continues to inform her work as a conductor, vocal coach, and adjudicator.
A significant part of Carol’s career has been dedicated to children’s choral education in Hong Kong. She has served as a Choir Tutor with the Hong Kong Children’s Choir since 2002 and was appointed Assistant Chora Supervisor for the Junior Level in 2010, mentoring young singers and supporting the artistic development of one of Asia’s leading children’s choirs. She has also conducted the St. Paul’s Convent School Junior Choir, the Ho Tung Secondary School Vocal Group, and the Chan’s Creative School Choir, leading these ensembles to numerous awards at choral festivals. Her long-standing association with St. Paul’s Convent School includes serving as Music Director for the school’s 160th Anniversary Homecoming
Musical, directing its 170th Anniversary performance, conducting the SPCS Alumni Choir, and preparing its choirs for award-winning performances.
Carol has made significant contributions to youth music development through Opera Hong Kong, where she has served as Assistant Director of the Opera Hong Kong Summer School, Programme Director for the Opera Hong Kong Children’s Concert, and Vocal Coach for the Opera Hong Kong Children’s Chorus. In these roles, she has prepared young performers for major classical productions including Werther, La Bohème, and The Magic Flute, combining vocal training with expressive performance skills.
In 2012, Carol founded Musical Kidz Studio to provide structured vocal training and performance opportunities for young singers. Under her direction, students have
participated in commercial film soundtrack recordings, independent music albums, and the DO-RE-MI Music Publishing CD Recording Project. She has also prepared youth choirs for televised and live performances alongside leading Hong Kong artists, including Dear Jane, Alfred Hui, and Supper Moment.
Currently dividing her time between Hong Kong and London, Carol continues to promote choral music through educational and community initiatives. In the United Kingdom, she conducts the HKUK Children’s Choir and the Kingston Chinese Association Choir, and has directed performances for the Rotary Club of London and various East and Southeast Asian (ESEA) cultural programmes across London and Surrey. She is also the founder of the CCGirl Choir, which promotes community engagement, cultural connection, and musical excellence through choral singing.
Carol has previously served as an adjudicator for institutions including Good Hope School and Marymount Secondary School. Drawing on extensive experience as a performer, conductor, and educator, she evaluates choirs with attention to vocal technique, intonation, diction, ensemble blend, musical interpretation, and communication. Her adjudications provide constructive feedback that encourages young singers to develop confidence, artistry, and a lifelong appreciation of choral music.
