Cheuk Yee Wong graduated from the notable American vocal studies conservatory Westminster Choir College. She completed her master’s degree in Voice Pedagogy & Performance with distinction. Previously, she had been awarded B.A. in Music, B.A. in English Language & Literature, and Education Diploma by Hong Kong Baptist University. In 2021, she also received her Higher Education Teaching Certificate from Harvard’s Derek Bok Center for Teaching and Learning (USA). Entering into the 15th anniversary of her voice teaching career, Ms. Wong pays tribute to her former voice teachers, Prof. Margaret Cusack, Ms. Chan Siu Kwan, and Mr. Caleb Woo. Though originally classically-trained, Ms. Wong has been eagerly engaging in musical theater and contemporary commercial music voice pedagogy training in recent years. She possesses Grade 8 certificates in Singing for Musical Theatre (ABRSM) and Pop Vocals (Rockschool).
Ms. Wong is now a part-time lecturer of HKBU Music Academy, Internal Vice President of the Hong Kong Chapter of National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS), and nonetheless the founder of Cherir Voice Studio. Through the years, Ms. Wong has visited numerous schools, churches, youth centers, and community organizations with the mission of teaching knowledge and sharing experiences. She has judged various music competitions while she was one of the adjudicators of the first HKICF Competition cum Masterclass. In 2022, she also founded her first classical voice competition – Les Images International Classical Voice Competition.
During her USA stay, Ms. Wong’s voice or opera research findings were presented at her school and in the regional NATS conference. She was the winner of the Students Audition (Eastern Region) held by the NATS in 2015, and of the Special Operatic Aria Prize at the Hong Kong International Open Vocal Competition in 2017, thus representing the category to compete for the Ms. Barbara Fei Cup. Earlier, Ms. Wong was semi-finalist of the Mary Trueman Vocal Arts Competition held by the Art Song Preservation Society of New York.
